The Nike Vomero Plus is one of the best running shoes available, offering a supremely comfortable and bouncy ride that’s perfect for easy and long runs, but also pretty effective at faster paces as well.
It’s stands out from the rest of the best cushioned running shoes because of its extra versatility and bounce, and in the UK it’s also pretty good value for a max-stack cruiser. The Nike Vomero Plus is a shoe we’ll certainly keep using even after our testing is done, which is the highest praise we can really give a running shoe.

Nike Vomero Plus review
How’s The Fit
Nick tested the Vomero Plus for our review and found that it fit well in his normal running shoe size, which is the same size he uses across the Nike range. The tongue and collar are highly padded, and it’s not the most breathable upper, but it is very comfortable if you’re not running in hot conditions.

The Run Test: Likes

The mega-stack of ZoomX foam in the midsole of the Vomero Plus delivers a fantastic ride at a wider range of paces than most cushioned shoes. It’s comfortable and protective for easy runs, especially if landing at the heel, and lively and bouncy when you push a little harder.
It reminded us of the first two models of the Nike Invincible in how springy it feels underfoot, but the Vomero Plus is more stable than the Invincible 1 and 2, and feels better-suited to easy and long runs as a result.
Nick used the Vomero Plus for the bulk of his easy and steady miles during a couple of weeks of marathon training and it was perfect for protecting the legs in high-mileage weeks, and made cruising through daily runs more enjoyable.
While it’s not a speed shoe, the Vomero Plus is fairly versatile and would a great option for runners who want one cushioned shoe for everything, and would suit new runners or those tackling a first marathon well. For others it fits perfectly in a rotation as a cushioned option to handle all of your relaxed mileage.
The rocker on the shoe is smooth too, and makes it feel like it has a slightly lower drop than the listed 10mm. For such a big shoe, it turns over quickly and doesn’t have the stodgy or cumbersome feel you sometimes get with max-stack shoes.
So far the Vomero Plus is also proving durable in our testing, with the outsole showing no signs of wear after 100km and the midsole feeling just as bouncy.
The Run Test: Dislikes
The Nike Vomero Plus is a big shoe and despite the fact it runs lighter than it is, some runners might simply prefer to have a little more ground feel during their training, and a nimbler, lower-stack shoe would be better in that case.
While we found the Vomero Plus to be stable throughout our runs, those who need extra support might find it too high and soft to use every day.

Verdict And Alternatives

The Nike Vomero Plus is an excellent running shoe and one we’d recommend to anyone looking for a max-stack cruiser for their daily training. It’s bouncy and fun, and more versatile than most highly cushioned rivals like the Brooks Glycerin Max and Asics Gel-Nimbus 27. It will be staying in Nick’s rotation as his go-to cushioned shoe for easy and long runs.
It’s also a good price in the UK, where it undercuts most high-end cushioned shoes, though a couple of cheaper rivals that might be worth looking at are the Puma Magnify Nitro 3 and Asics Novablast 5. Neither are as bouncy as the Vomero Plus, or as cushioned, but both are great cushioned daily trainers that are a little more affordable.
If you’re looking for a max-stack all-rounder that is better for fast runs than the Vomero Plus, then the Asics Megablast would fit the bill. It’s stiffer and less comfortable than the Vomero Plus for easy runs, but lighter and more responsive at faster paces.
Nike Vomero Plus vs Brooks Glycerin Max
These are both impressive max-cushioned running shoes, but the Vomero Plus has the bouncier, livelier ride. It’s a more fun shoe, and more versatile as well, responding better at pace and being lighter overall. The Glycerin Max is a reliable, stable daily trainer, but the Nike wins this one for us.
Nike Vomero Plus vs Asics Megablast
They have similar stack heights, but these are quite different shoes. The Megablast is a lighter and more responsive shoe that’s built to handle any kind of run, while the Vomero Plus is more focused on comfort and protection. New runners will be better off with the Nike, and it fits well into a rotation as the easy run option, while the Megablast is a better all-rounder.
